Korea…I have an odd relationship with Korea…I can’t put my finger on it quite yet!

I am fast-approaching the big 10 month mark…March 26th…and I really thought by now I’d have it all figured out. But if anything…this place I currently call home has only clouded my mind, my thoughts and my being. The clarity I was hoping/seeking has yet to make its grand appearance…so I wait…patiently…somedays…impatiently… My daily life moves at such bullet-speed that even if clarity wanted to show-up, even for a mere moment…I’d zoom right by without a second glance! I need to SLOW down!!! It’s so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of this life…to fill your days and more damaging – yourself - with mindless activities and the whole “we’re in this together” so we should do “EVERYTHING” together mentality!! I love people…(generally…and those I don’t..well..they know!) – but I am honestly sick and tired of insignificant relationships. In my almost 10 months here, I have made some good, real, honest and SIGNIFICANT relationships…but majority would fall into the “insignificant” or “you’re fun to hang out with” category. As I’ve come to this realization, I want to move forward from here with the cliche but very fitting saying “quality over quantity”..

here’s my short and fast top-ten list of what makes korea…so…special…:)!!

**disclaimer (this is not a mockery of the korean culture…merely lame, subjective observations…!!)

10. uber feminine korean “boys/men” in shiny silver suits, stylin’ man purses, platform heels and better haircuts than tyra banks…

9. a taxi driver who runs all the stop lights at 2 am…all the while putting you into cardiac arrest…but hey – you get home in half the time! wait a minute…but it costs twice as much?!

8. grown korean men with hello kitty and precious moments charms hanging from their cell phones…

7. overabundance of lace, bows and my personal favorite…pastel colored banana clips

6. excessive pda among korean boys…and men in aforementioned shiny suits…

5. grown, successful women in their late-twenties with 11:00 pm curfews and the mentality of 16-year-olds…

4. saunas…where you sit around for hours upon hours…bum naked…scrubbing each others’ backs raw…still haven’t wrapped my mind around that concept...

3. Ajummas wearing visors down to their chin, floral print, elastic-waisted pants and a t-shirt that says “glamour girl” with rhinestones…who proceed to tell you “you’re not christian because you talk too loud”…or that “your eggs are dying!!…you need to focus on having babies…”!!!

Living in a bubble…

Finally…I’ve re-entered the world of blogging! All the subtle hints from family and friends about the lack of blogs did not go unnoticed! I realize now I’ve been somewhat selfish…well – VERY selfish with my time and my thoughts…but here I am now!

I feel as though I’ve been living in a bubble the last few months…but I’m finally starting to see more clearly. My lack of blogging was due to a combination of things…not laziness or because I was having SO much fun that I didn’t have the time…but mostly out of reluctance…reluctant to acknowledge and verbalize all that I’ve experienced thus far!

Just last week I begrudgingly celebrated my big 30…and while I know it’s just a number…I’ve come face to face with the “decline” of my youth! And that’s a HUGE reality check…and POP! went that bubble…!!!

I promise to be a better daughter, sister and friend…and keep you closer to my life…from this side of the world…from the land of the morning calm!
